Service Area at a Glance

Olympic Fence Company is a family-owned fence contractor based in West Newbury, Massachusetts, founded by David LaPierre in 1985 and now run by his son, James LaPierre. It installs cedar, vinyl, chain link and ornamental aluminum and steel fencing for homes within about 30 miles of West Newbury, across Essex County and the Merrimack Valley, including Newburyport, West Newbury, Amesbury, Salisbury, Haverhill, Groveland, North Andover, Beverly and Merrimac. Commercial and municipal projects, including security, athletic field and engineered gate work, run up to 70 miles out. Its own wood-on-steel system pairs cedar with steel posts so the fence does not rot at the base, and every installation carries a lifetime workmanship warranty. The company is a member of the American Fence Association.

What Fences Do We Install Across the Merrimack Valley and Essex County?

The same lineup runs in every town we serve. What changes is which one fits the lot, the weather it sees and the reason you want a fence.

Residential wood and cedar fencing

Traditional cedar and our wood-on-steel system, with steel posts under cedar boards so the base does not rot out.

Vinyl fencing

Privacy, semi-privacy and picket styles that never need staining and hold up well in salt air.

Privacy fencing

Solid cedar or vinyl panels sized to your town's height limits for back yards and side lines.

Chain link fencing

Galvanized and black vinyl-coated systems for yards, dogs, ball fields and commercial perimeters.

Ornamental aluminum and steel

Open-view metal fencing for front yards, pool enclosures and properties where security matters.

Pool fencing

Enclosures and self-closing, self-latching gates built to the pool barrier code your town enforces.

Does the Right Fence Change From the Coast to Inland Towns?

Yes. A fence near the coast and a fence in an inland town face different problems, so we choose materials and post methods for the ground and weather your property actually has.

Coastal towns

Newburyport, Salisbury, Beverly and the marsh edges

Salt air corrodes cheap hardware, damp marsh ground keeps wood posts wet, and open exposure puts real wind load on solid panels.

  • Vinyl holds up to salt and needs no staining.
  • Wood-on-steel keeps cedar off wet ground at the post.
  • Hardware and spacing are chosen with wind in mind.
Inland towns

Haverhill, Groveland, North Andover and the river valley

Ledge and rocky soil make digging slow, and freeze-thaw cycles push posts up and out of line over a few winters.

  • Post layouts are planned around rock found during the estimate.
  • Steel posts resist the heave that loosens wood set in the ground.
  • Sloped lots get stepped or racked panels to follow the grade.

Permit Rules Change From Town to Town

Three neighboring communities show how much the rules differ. Each town page carries the full local detail.

TownBuilding permitWorth knowing
Haverhill Required for every fence, at any height. The application moves through more than one office at City Hall, so build in time before the install date.
Newburyport Not required for fences under 7 feet, according to the City of Newburyport. Zoning and wetlands rules still apply, and some coastal lots need Conservation Commission review.
Salisbury Fences 6 feet and under typically do not need one. Taller fences go to the Building Department, and setbacks can apply depending on the lot.

This is a general summary based on each town's published guidance and is not legal advice. Requirements can change. Contact the local building department or consult a licensed professional for current requirements specific to your property.

How Far Do You Travel for Commercial and Municipal Work?

Up to 70 miles from West Newbury. Olympic Fence Company has a long history of municipal and commercial work, and it runs across a much wider area than our residential installs. Security fencing, athletic fields, engineered gates and bid projects are covered on our commercial pages.

What Does the Lifetime Workmanship Warranty Cover?

If something fails because of how we installed it, we come back and fix it, in any town we serve. The warranty stays with the original customer and does not transfer if the property is sold.

Materials carry their own manufacturer warranties, which vary by product. We give you the manufacturer's paperwork when the job is done, and if anything comes up, you call us first and we deal with the supplier. Storm and impact damage is repair work rather than a warranty claim. More about the LaPierre family and our warranty.

Service Area Questions

Do you install fences in my town?

If your home is within about 30 miles of West Newbury, yes. That covers most of Essex County and the Merrimack Valley. If you are unsure, send your address with your estimate request and we will confirm.

Do you charge more for towns farther from West Newbury?

We do not publish a price, because fence cost depends on the job more than the zip code. Four things move the number most: the material, the total length, the height and number of gates, and the ground the posts go into. Your estimate spells out each of those for your property.

Who handles the permit?

We do. Before we set a post, we check what your town requires for your lot, including height limits, setbacks and any conservation review, and we take care of the application where one is needed.

How far do you go for commercial or town projects?

Up to 70 miles from West Newbury, which covers much of eastern Massachusetts and southern New Hampshire. That includes security fencing, athletic fields, engineered gates and projects that go through public bidding.

Is Your Property in Our Service Area?

Send your address and what you want the fence to do. We will confirm we cover your town, check its permit rules for your lot and set up a time to look at the property.
